What is Contrast checker?
Contrast Checker — Free contrast checker — test any text and background color pair against WCAG AA and AAA contrast ratios and get an instant pass or fail verdict.
The ratio is computed with the WCAG 2.0 math from the vendored contrast-ratio engine by Lea Verou (MIT): its Color class's get luminance() (relative luminance, .2126/.7152/.0722 channel weights with the 0.03928 gamma branch) and its contrast() ratio formula (lighter+0.05)/(darker+0.05), used verbatim. Ratings use the real WCAG thresholds for normal text: AA at 4.5:1, AAA at 7:1. Colors are treated as fully opaque hex values.

Good to know
- Colors must be hex values (3-digit is expanded, e.g. #fff → #ffffff); named colors and rgb()/hsl() strings are rejected.
- Both colors are treated as fully opaque — semi-transparency is not modeled.
- Ratings use normal-text thresholds (AA 4.5, AAA 7); the "AA Large" rating applies the 3:1 large-text threshold.
- The ratio is rounded to one decimal for display; pass/fail verdicts use the full-precision value.
How it works

Examples
Status: ok — 21.0 : 1, WCAG rating AAA, passes AA and AAA.
Status: ok — about 3.5 : 1, WCAG rating AA Large: passes large-text AA only, fails normal-text AA and AAA.
Status: ok — 1.0 : 1, WCAG rating Fail: identical colors have no contrast.
